Espanyol: Drkusic and Hinojo flagged after fourth yellow cards
After Atlético’s 0-1 win, Espanyol face a double threat of suspensions affecting Villarreal and Racing Santander.
The RCD Espanyol lost 0-1 to Atlético Madrid, but the real worry came after the whistle: Vanja Drkusic and Roger Hinojo reached the fourth yellow of the season and could miss two key away games. Mundo Deportivo reports that Drkusic was the most prominent center until his body started to fail, and Hinojo also picked up the booking.
Manolo González changed the back line for the match, bringing Hinojo back and dropping Quilindschy Hartman. The coach went with a five-man defense, with Drkusic, Clemens Riedel and Leandro Cabrera as the central trio, and five players behind.
A decisive week for Manolo
That double threat lands at the worst possible time for Manolo González, whose future is said to be “up for review” in trips to Racing Santander and Villarreal, plus the Copa tie vs Sestao River on October 27 (19:00). Hinojo is set to miss the visit to La Cerámica on Friday, October 30 (21:00) if he receives another yellow at El Sardinero on Saturday (16:15).
