Europa looks for a bigger ground for the derby vs Sant Andreu

The derby is set for November 14 or 15, and Europa wants to move from Can Dragó (about 3,000) to a stadium that could fit around 10,000.

Europa is working on finding a new venue for its derby against Sant Andreu, scheduled for November 14-15 weekend, after realizing the Municipal de Can Dragó (just over 3,000 seats) is too small. Their latest meeting, played at Sant Andreu’s ground, drew more than 6,000 fans.

The club expects the turnout could reach close to 10,000, aided by the fact that there is no Primera División league match that weekend. As Mundo Deportivo reports, negotiations have already begun, with the priority being a higher-capacity stadium and good public-transport connections.

Among the possibilities being considered are Sabadell’s Nova Creu Alta, though the previously checked price was well beyond Europa’s means, and Barcelona’s Johan Cruyff Stadium, which holds around 6,000 and doesn’t quite convince. The option that Europa prefers most is Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium: Espanyol is open to it, but both clubs still need to agree the economic terms because the opening costs are high.

On the pitch, Europa bounced back after beating Algeciras 2-1. Luis Blanco said: “I’m proud of the team… I’m leaving happy because the sensations were very good.”
