Facundo Bernal banned for 4 matches for assaulting Lamine Yamal
RFEF confirms Bernal’s red card in Betis-Barcelona with a four-game suspension covering LaLiga and Copa.
The RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee has handed Facundo Bernal a four-match ban for his sending off after attacking Lamine Yamal in Betis-Barcelona on Saturday. In the referee’s report by Ricardo de Burgos Bengoechea, the incident happened in the 54th minute: Bernal was expelled for grabbing his opponent by the neck and delivering two consecutive headbutts to the face while the ball was not in play.
Under article 103 of the Disciplinary Code, the action is classified as aggression, with a suspension range of four to twelve matches—yet the punishment is the minimum grade. That means he misses LaLiga games versus Celta (25 October), Málaga (31 October) and Elche (8 November), plus the Copa tie against Navalcarnero.
A potential return would line up with the derby at Sevilla on 22 November, following the international break. As Mundo Deportivo highlights, the club’s options for appeal and for a precautionary measure at the TAD are difficult, given the minimum sanction applied.
