FC Porto beat Marítimo 1-2 to arrive top for Betis visit

Porto won 1-2 vs Marítimo on Saturday, collecting 24 of 24 points, but head to Betis midweek with a right ankle injury concern.

FC Porto beat Marítimo 1-2 this Saturday, keeping up a flawless start in the Primeira Liga with 24 points from 24. That sets up Francesco Farioli’s Champions League trip to Real Betis, even if the club has a key setback: William Gomes is injured.

Marítimo struck first in the 16th minute, but Porto replied just before half-time. Victor Froholdt levelled in the 42nd, and Oskar Pietuszewski scored the decisive 1-2 in the 84th. Former Betis keeper Fran Vieites helped keep the game alive with seven saves.

Injury hits ahead of Betis

The biggest worry is William Gomes: he has a grade II sprain in his right ankle and misses the Champions match on Wednesday. Farioli started with Diogo Costa; Alberto Costa, Bednarek, Kiwior and Francisco Moura; Hwang In-beom and Froholdt; William Gomes, Alan Varela, Pepê and André Silva. Pablo Rosario and Pietuszewski came on after the break, with the Pole scoring the winner. Gabri Veiga played too, and Borja Sainz replaced the injured William Gomes. As Mundo Deportivo reports, Samu Aghehowa returned for minutes after coming back weeks ago against Benfica.
