Ferran Costa: “Sometimes I stay to sleep at Nova Creu Alta”

Ferran Costa, coach of Sabadell, is coming off an early season that he describes as the best moment for the club in recent history. In his press conference, he linked the results to a clear shift in mindset: he recalled that, not long ago, the club used to “give away tickets” to attract 1,500 fans, while now “people queue and pay to make sure they don’t miss out on a seat”. Costa also pointed to the growth off the pitch, saying that over two seasons their membership has jumped by 89%, from 5,500 members to 10,400.

Demanding, always

Costa insisted that this is the kind of project he wants to sustain: “We are the team that runs the most in the league and at the same time the one that walks the least.” He warned that they cannot drop “by even 1%” at any moment, because, in his words, it is hard to build things but easy to destroy them. He even shared how far that mentality goes day to day, admitting that some days he ends up staying at the stadium: “Progress has a price and it isn’t comfort.”

“Big challenge” vs Oviedo

Regarding the upcoming game, this Sunday against Oviedo at Nova Creu Alta, Costa called it “a major challenge”. He justified it by describing an “excellent team” with “a magnificent coach” and “many players from higher categories in recent years”. In his view, Oviedo is “well-equipped” with many options and tactical variations, but Sabadell must keep “the same line” to remain “very consistent”.
