FIFA to pay clubs for training and education rights

FIFA has just informed national associations about how much it will pay clubs for training and education rights, in a reward tied to youth development. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the method starts with each country grouping its clubs into up to four categories depending on their spending on player development.

How the system works

The training costs are set for each category as the sum required to train a player over one year, then multiplied by a “player factor”—a coefficient linked to the number of players that need to be developed to produce a professional.

Payments by category

Under the new structure, all UEFA clubs fall under the four-category scale, while CONMEBOL is the only other confederation that uses all four. The remaining confederations (AFC, OFC, CAF and CONCACAF) use just three categories.

For CONMEBOL, the top figure for Category I is about €43,000. Elsewhere, the maximum ranges from €34,616 to €25,962, depending on the confederation’s scale.

The idea behind the calculation, as outlined in the report, is to channel compensation to clubs based on how their training setup is categorized—using predefined amounts by category and confederation.
