Five England absences: Palmer and Rice ruled out vs Spain
England suffer injury withdrawals for Nations League: Palmer, Rice, Rashford, Livramento and Mainoo, with Garner and Gibbs-White named as replacements.
England head into their Nations League fixtures hit by a string of injury problems, with the FA confirming changes to the squad for matches against Spain, the Czech Republic and Croatia. Among the withdrawals are Cole Palmer, Declan Rice and Marcus Rashford, plus two more players who will miss the games.
Injuries take their toll
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the players ruled out are:
- Cole Palmer
- Declan Rice
- Marcus Rashford
- Tino Livramento
- Kobbie Mainoo
The same source adds that James Garner (Everton) and Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) have been called up as replacements by Thomas Tuchel.
England reshuffle for the start
Mundo Deportivo also notes that Palmer’s absence ends a short spell back in the manager’s plans after he was left out of England’s squad for this year’s World Cup. The article highlights that he played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s defeat to Brentford and that, following that World Cup disappointment, he has found his best form again—scoring four goals and providing two assists in seven games for the club this season.
England begin their Nations League campaign at Wembley on Saturday against newly crowned world champions Spain, before travelling to Prague to face the Czech Republic on 29 September.
