Four-minute delay in Betis-Getafe explained: a kit issue

Real Betis edged Getafe 1-0 at the Cartuja Stadium with Abde scoring the only goal in the 45th minute. Still, the match had an unusual wrinkle right at the start. As Mundo Deportivo reports, there was no prior tribute or minute of silence that would have justified the delay.

Why kickoff slipped

According to the referee’s report, the Murcia-born official José María Sánchez Martínez wrote that there was an “incident” involving the Getafe team’s kit. In the “other observations or additions” section, he stated that the start was put back four minutes because of “incidents detected during the usual review of the away team’s kit” before kickoff.

Mundo Deportivo also notes the visual setup: Getafe wore all-blue (shirt, shorts and socks) in Seville, while Betis played in their customary colours—green-and-white shirt, white shorts and green socks with a white upper trim. That pre-match check is what led to the postponement.

The game still went ahead

Once play began, the match was decided in the simplest way: a 1-0 win for Betis, with Abde’s goal before halftime. In any case, the brief delay didn’t derail a result that finished in the home side’s favour.
