Franco Mastantuono’s Fiorentina stumble again: 2-1 loss at Genoa
Fiorentina fall 2-1 at the Luigi Ferraris as Genoa earn their first Serie A win and climb out of the bottom spots.
Franco Mastantuono, on loan from Real Madrid, played the full 90 minutes as Fiorentina lost to Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris (2-1), after a positive run following Fabio Grosso’s appointment.
Genoa, coached by Daniele De Rossi, had managed just one draw in their opening five matches and secured their first Serie A victory, moving out of the relegation zone and pushing Fiorentina back down despite both teams sitting on four points. Fiorentina started the campaign with three straight defeats. The coaching change sparked a 2-4 win over Venezia, highlighted by a Mastantuono hat-trick—but that momentum was halted today.
Two goals early
Fiorentina’s night unraveled quickly: Milutin Osmajic scored at 7 minutes and Junior Messias made it 15’. The visitors still had a response, with Johan Vásquez scoring an own goal after a cross from Álex Jiménez (73’). Even so, they couldn’t force an equalizer—Cher Ndur had two chances, including a shot that hit the post in the 84th minute.
