Friedkin open to selling Everton: ready for a major step
Everton confirms Friedkin is exploring a full sale after a Premier League summer that didn’t quite land with fans.
The Friedkin group, owner of Everton, is open to selling the club two years after buying it in December 2024, with the news confirmed by the Premier League outfit after The Athletic’s report. In its statement, Everton says the group is reviewing new investment options, including a potential sale of a majority stake.
A sale with conditions
The original plan was to bring in new investors by selling a minority share, but now a full exit is being considered. The Athletic adds that Friedkin—based in Houston—would only be willing to sell to a buyer capable of taking the squad to the “next level,” and it does not appear to be in a hurry to find an owner.
Sommer disappointment
Everton also points back to the moment of the takeover, when it says the club faced “major financial uncertainty” and “major challenges.” After five Premier League matchdays the team sat seventh, and supporters were not fully satisfied with the summer business, including a late failed attempt to sign Folarin Balogun, who ultimately stayed at AS Monaco.
NHL plans too
The Athletic further reports Friedkin is looking to launch an NHL franchise in Houston—a move the North American league has already confirmed.
