Funes after the 1-1: claims a clear foul in Alavés’ goal

Málaga manager Sergio Funes left Mendizorroza disappointed after a 1-1 draw with Alavés. Adrián Niño put the visitors ahead on the edge of halftime, but Aitor Mañas equalised in the 89th minute from a rebound in the box.

Funes took aim at the officiating, pointing specifically to Alavés’ goal. “Hay una falta clara en el gol del Alavés,” he said, and then went into the key moment: “Vemos que, en su gol, pisa claramente a Recio.” The Málaga coach maintained that the strike came after a foul on his midfielder.

He also praised the team’s level, calling the first half “the best first half of the season” and the away performance “the best away match” of the campaign. He added that Málaga were “more together,” won more balls, and improved their transitions against the opponent.
