Gary Neville slams Carrick: United arrive with 6 points from 6 league games

The ex-captain questions Tielemans and Mainoo after the 1-1 vs Tottenham, with the trip to Madrid on Oct 13.

Manchester United, coached by Michael Carrick, head to Atlético de Madrid on 13 October at the Metropolitano with worrying league form: they have 6 points from 6 Premier League matches. In that mood, Gary Neville criticised the situation after the weekend 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

Neville singled out the midfield duo of Youri Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo. “I think we’ve seen enough of Tielemans and Mainoo,” he said. While he stressed he was not calling for an immediate exit, he added that, in his view, it’s “not a dynamic enough midfield” for the demands of the Premier League. He also argued that the players can be good individually, but sometimes “they don’t quite fit” or don’t complement each other.

With the home crowd turning against the team, Neville told Carrick he needs urgent fixes before the run of fixtures that includes Atlético de Madrid and Leeds United. “If you’re not fully right mentally and physically, you’ll feel it,” he warned, adding that they have only a couple of days to recover before the weeks that follow, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
