Getafe boss José Bordalás fumes after Lugano 2-5: “I feel misled”
After Getafe’s 2-5 loss to Lugano in the Conference League, Bordalás hit out at squad planning: “It doesn’t work for three competitions”.
José Bordalás, coach of Getafe, was visibly furious after the 2-5 defeat to Lugano in the Conference League, saying he feels “misled” because “what was promised year after year hasn’t been delivered”. Speaking in his post-match press conference, he stressed that he cares deeply about the club and its fans, but that what happened “is very frustrating”.
Bordalás said he found no positives in the performance and pointed out that he had warned for months the schedule—games every three days—would expose a lack of depth: “It has been proven we don’t have a squad for that.” He also defended the changes he made during the match, arguing the scoreline could have become worse.
Defensive blame
He laid the blame heavily on Getafe’s defensive display: “They were simply getting in with balls over the top… we didn’t mark.” In his view, conceding five goals cannot be allowed, insisting “Lugano would be in the Segunda in Spain” and that it’s “unacceptable” to receive that many.
Turnaround needed at San Mamés
With limited options, he said he will have to take more risks with regular starters and demanded an immediate response for the next league match at San Mamés against Athletic Club, adding that he can’t rotate due to the absence of another squad to compete.
