Getafe downplays arbitration controversy after Betis game

Real Betis vs Getafe left two controversial moments that raised questions about refereeing, but Getafe opted to keep things calm. As reported by MARCA, Bordalás and Djené Dakonam avoided turning it into a full-blown controversy after what happened around Firpo and the Betis goal that was checked by VAR.

In the first incident, MARCA says a tackle by Firpo on Francho went unpunished. The outlet also draws a comparison with an earlier incident in which Kiko Femenía was sent off in the first round. In that context, Djené was direct about his stance: “In the refereeing matter, I’m not getting into it.” He added that the team must keep working: “The thing I can say today is that we need to keep working. LaLiga will be very difficult. Today we improved compared to last week.”

After that, doubts grew around the Betis goal. MARCA explains that despite VAR review, the referee did not go to the monitor. Bordalás highlighted two points: a possible handball by Ez Abde close to the body and an interference by Isco before the finish that affected David Soria’s line of sight.

Bordalás’ comments

Bordalás called the goal incident “at the very least very doubtful”: “Isco was there, he stretched his leg and blocked David Soria’s visibility.” He also argued that the handball is the kind of move that usually gets penalized: “Those actions are usually a hand.”

Still, he refused to open a bigger dispute: “I’m not saying anything else… it seems like I’m complaining about everything and that’s not the case.” He referred to his team’s own red as well: “In the red card for us, Mario takes his leg away, he doesn’t do it with malice… we have to learn from those actions.”

Looking ahead, the visitors will miss Mario Martín for the trip to Málaga, a match the dressing room has already marked as a chance to return to three points and climb the table, according to MARCA.
