Girona stretched thin in attack during the international break
Girona must host Albacete and Mallorca at Montilivi with key absences from both international duty and injuries.
The international schedule leaves Quique Álvarez with a clear issue: Girona will play both matches that fall during the international break at Montilivi, and with an attack stretched to the limit, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Two home games coming
The plan is to take on Albacete first and then face Mallorca, in a spell where the coach will be missing key forward options. The main worry is the unavailability of two of their most decisive players: Asprilla and Vanat are away with their national teams and won’t be available for those fixtures.
On top of that, Mundo Deportivo notes that Oleksandr Pyshchur is also out because he’s been called up with Ukraine’s under-21 side. The situation worsens with injuries: Bryan Gil is still recovering from an isquiotibial muscle issue, while Jastin is expected to be out for several weeks due to a quadriceps rupture.
With these absences, Girona will have to build their attacking options primarily around Abel Ruiz, Stuani, Carles Pérez and Portu. Mundo Deportivo adds that Portu needs special caution: he returned to a squad call-up at Cádiz after nearly a year out with a serious ACL injury, and he still needs to regain competitive sharpness. It also underlines that the Uruguayan has only played half an hour recently and hasn’t featured in any minutes in his team’s last four matches.
The concern is heightened by the quality of the opponents. After Albacete, Girona will host Mallorca, widely seen as one of the main candidates for promotion. Two home games where the attack will be heavily affected, with the break offering little real time to recover, Mundo Deportivo concludes.
