Goga Kikscheisvili to referee Real Sociedad’s Europa League tie
Georgia’s Goga Kikscheisvili (35) will take charge of Real Sociedad’s Europa League match this Thursday, with VAR by Darren England.
UEFA has appointed Georgian referee Goga Kikscheisvili (35) to officiate this Thursday’s Europa League match involving Real Sociedad. It will be the first time he’s refereed the Basque side in European competition, and also his first Europa League game of the season.
Kikscheisvili has prior European experience, having handled two qualifying matches for the Conference League and one Nations League C tie between Bulgaria and Estonia. His main Spanish link comes through the Betis: last season he refereed the Europa League match against Dinamo Zagreb, which ended 1-3 in favour of the Spanish club.
For VAR, he’ll be assisted by the English official Darren England. The appointment is also the first time Kikscheisvili will referee Union Saint Gilloise in Europe, after previous work with Gent and Club Brugge.
