Gorka Guruzeta on how Raúl García supported him through his injury
Guruzeta says that after tearing the ACL in his right knee in April, Raúl García arranged a recovery stay and support for three months.
Gorka Guruzeta, Athletic Club forward, has shared in Athletic Talks how Raúl García, now retired, helped him during the recovery from a torn ACL in his right knee. The incident happened in April, and the striker explained that the early rehab coincided with many club physiotherapists being away on vacation.
In the conversation, Guruzeta said Raúl told him to get treatment from his physiotherapist in Pamplona and, to keep the recovery process constant, left him his house for three months. “Ha sido como un padre,” the forward summed up, stressing that Raúl is there to help and to correct you when needed.
Guruzeta also looked back at his path into the first team: he debuted in 2018, although that same season he ended up playing for the Bilbao Athletic. He added that the injury forced him to change habits to become the footballer he wanted to be. “It’s a hard blow and a very serious injury, but I’ve turned it into something positive.”
Now in his seventh season with the first team, he is on track to reach 200 official matches and thanked José Ángel Ziganda for shaping his jump into the professional game.
