Granit Xhaka fined €160,000 for fraudulent Covid certificate use
The Swiss midfielder accepted the sentence: a €160,000 suspended fine and a two-year probation period, as reported by L’Équipe.
Granit Xhaka (Switzerland) was handed a €160,000 fine for obtaining fraudulent Covid-19 certificates, as he confirmed this Thursday via Instagram.
The midfielder, who missed the latest gathering of the Swiss national team due to his legal case, had faced up to five years in prison over incidents dating back to 2022. The ruling came through a penal order: 50 day-fines of 3,000 Swiss francs each, with a two-year probation period. The total is 150,000 Swiss francs, but the suspended sentence means he won’t have to pay if he commits no further offences during those two years.
In his post, Xhaka wrote: «J’ai été condamné… à une amende avec sursis… assortie d’un délai d’épreuve de deux ans». He also said: «J’accepte cette décision… Merci pour les nombreux messages de soutien»."
