Grego Sierra (Burgos) hits 150 league games vs Sabadell
The Murcian centre-back reaches the milestone this Sunday and recalls an early own-goal vs Leganés.
Grego Sierra, the Burgos centre-back, will play this Sunday his 150th league match in a blanquinegro shirt, against Sabadell, his former club. The Murcian admits the figure wasn’t in his plans when he arrived at Burgos in the summer of 2021: “I didn’t expect, back then, to reach the number of games I’ve played here or to last this long.”
His early spell wasn’t smooth. For his debut season, Sierra looks back on a setback: it was a difficult start, with an own goal in a match against Leganés. From that moment on, he earned a key role in both the defensive structure and the dressing room.
In 2021-22, Burgos’ goal was survival and they achieved it comfortably; in 2022-23, the team hit a high point with a clean-sheet record built on the work of the back line, where he was one of the constants. After three consecutive seasons, he left for Universitatea Craiova in summer 2024, then returned to Burgos in January 2025. Now, in his sixth season with the club, he’s clear on the priority: the three points. “It’s going to be a special match between two teams I hold close to my heart,” he said.
