Guido Rodríguez: Valencia allows him to travel for Messi’s farewell

The Argentine midfielder will head to Argentina during the break and return after Oct. 6’s friendly vs Benin.

Valencia has granted Guido Rodríguez permission to travel to Argentina during the international break to take part in the farewell events for Lionel Messi with the national team. The midfielder won’t play in the tribute match, but he will attend the day’s activities organized by the AFA.

Messi’s send-off is scheduled for October 6 at Buenos Aires’ Monumental stadium, when Lionel Scaloni’s side face Benin in a friendly. The AFA has planned events under the banner “Gracias, Leo.”

As MARCA reports, the Argentine federation wants Guido Rodríguez involved because of his role in the cycle that brought the Albiceleste to win the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima, the 2022 Qatar World Cup and the 2024 Copa América. Valencia’s authorization will let him travel and return afterward, with his plan to rejoin training mid-way through next week ahead of the league restart on October 11 at El Sardinero vs Racing.
