Harvey Elliott apologises for Valencia red card: 'truly sorry'

Second yellow at minute 89 in the defeat to Villarreal, and coach Javier Aguirre called the dismissal absurd and ridiculous.

By TuFutbolero Newsroom

Valencia midfielder Harvey Elliott has apologised for his dismissal in the defeat to Villarreal at Mestalla. He was shown a second yellow card in the 89th minute for protesting, and on Instagram he addressed his teammates and the fans, admitting his mistake, saying he is truly remorseful and promising it will not happen again.

The England international joined Valencia on loan from Liverpool this summer and had come on in the 70th minute. Villarreal were also down to ten from the 79th, when Pape Gueye was sent off, but Mikautadze completed the comeback in the 96th minute and Valencia were left with nothing.

Coach Javier Aguirre was furious and described the dismissal as absurd and ridiculous. He accepted responsibility for the team selection but made clear he will speak to the referee. Elliott, for his part, says he is focused on getting back as soon as possible to help a side still in the relegation zone.
