Hugo Duro booed for an hour at Mestalla over his drought

The Valencia striker endured a “hunt” from the stands for an hour and was substituted by Aguirre before the hour mark.

Mestalla’s crowd turned against Hugo Duro, Valencia striker, for one hour, with a “persecution” of whistles, boos and insults. As MARCA notes, the trigger was his ongoing drought: the player had come from a match where he missed a chance, and the home fans were ready to make him pay.

He was targeted even during warm-up with whistles, and when his name was called for the starting lineup the boos returned. With Valencia struggling in the first half and sitting back, Duro touched the ball just six times, and in every one of them he received the pitade.

Before the hour, Aguirre changed him and shifted Danjuma to the role of nine. The whistles became an all-stadium chorus when the top scorer was taken off, still with frustration on his face. Aguirre is now short on forwards due to Sadiq’s injury and Blázquez’s situation, and Duro leaves Mestalla completely shaken.
