Iago Aspas targets a return after his thigh injury
Celta captain Iago Aspas says he expects to be back after the international break and reflects on the win over Racing.
Iago Aspas, captain of Celta Vigo, stepped up on Tuesday during a commercial event and used the moment to put a timeline on his comeback. As MARCA reports, the forward is recovering from a fibre tear in the rectus femoris (left thigh) and has already started to set the date for his return.
Return after the break
Aspas explained his progress: “I started running little by little this Monday; nine days have passed since the injury, and recovery is three or four weeks. I’ll be there when the break ends, with full energy,” as quoted by MARCA. That schedule suggests he should be available again once the parón (international break period) is over.
MARCA also notes the next fixtures for Celta: they travel to Elche and then return to Balaídos to host Juventus in a highly attractive Europa League clash.
Thoughts on the win
The striker also assessed his team’s latest result. After Celta beat Racing de Santander, he said it was “a much-needed victory, deserved,” while underlining the key lesson: “sometimes football isn’t about deserving things, it’s about putting the ball in the net.”
He backed the group’s work too: “we were working really well; we deserved many more points than we have,” adding that watching games from the sidelines was tough: “From outside, I lived those matches really badly.”
With his return date now clear, Aspas’ words also aim to keep the team’s momentum as they approach the weeks leading into and beyond the break.
