Igor Paixao (OM) on Canal+: “I have more chances to leave next summer”
The OM forward said on Canal+ that leaving in January is tougher and that he’d be more likely to go in the next summer window.
Igor Paixao, the Brazilian forward at Olympique de Marseille, explained on Canal+ when he thinks he has the best chance to leave. He said it ahead of Troyes-OM, a match the Marseille side won 2-0.
As RMC Sport notes, Paixao was close to departing this summer due to the club’s financial austerity, but he ultimately stayed. In his interview, he said: “C’est un moment spécial, mais la situation du club m’a fait rester”. He also stressed that he considered the club’s interests and argued that, even if he were sold, they wouldn’t be able to replace “une pièce qui est importante pour eux”.
The timing matters
Paixao left the door open: “Est-ce que je pourrais partir dès cet hiver? Je ne sais pas”, and added that he sees “plus de chances que je parte l’été prochain”. He also said he’s willing to lower his salary first, then increase it later, to help the club.
On the pitch, after six matches Paixao is still searching for his first decisive contribution: no goals and no assists yet. His reaction after being taken off against Troyes pointed to frustration. Source: RMC Sport.
