Iker Rodríguez lined up by Barça for Sevilla trip if Joan García is out
Mundo Deportivo reports that if Joan García’s right-knee issue rules him out, Hansi Flick is considering Iker Rodríguez as the backup for the Sevilla match.
Iker Rodríguez, Barça Atlètic’s 18-year-old goalkeeper, is being considered for a specific scenario: that Joan García may be held back due to right-knee discomfort picked up in the match against Racing Santander, as Mundo Deportivo reports.
The call, the outlet adds, will be made this Friday after the final training session. Hansi Flick has not ruled Joan García out yet, but in the meantime Rodríguez emerges as the likely academy option to complete the goalkeeper group.
If Joan García can’t make Sevilla
According to Mundo Deportivo, the natural fit would be for the Sabadell-born keeper to travel with the squad to Seville as the top academy candidate, with the match scheduled for Saturday against Sevilla in LaLiga, matchday 7 (21:30). The proposed goalkeeper list would be:
- Wojciech Szczesny
- Dominik Livakovic
- Iker Rodríguez (if Joan García is reserved)
Strong early start with Barça Atlètic
The piece highlights Rodríguez’s start for the reserve side: he has started the first two league fixtures and has kept the clean sheet. Barça Atlètic recorded a 5-0 win versus Náxara and then drew 0-0 with Logroñés B, where he made a crucial last-minute save.
