Iñaki Williams: Real Sociedad wanted him before he joined Athletic
Félix Tainta said on ‘Los Fulanos’ that Real Sociedad, Zaragoza and Osasuna pursued the winger before his Lezama move in 2012.
Félix Tainta, the agent of Iñaki Williams and a man tied to Athletic, revealed on the ‘Los Fulanos’ podcast that before the captain landed at the club, three teams were chasing him: Real Sociedad, Zaragoza and Osasuna.
Tainta said the player came through Club Natación and that he “could have gone to Osasuna”, but it didn’t happen because “they didn’t call him”. He also explained the pitch behind the move: in his words, “I bring you a diamond, and then Lezama, Tajonar or Zubieta polish it”. In his first season, Williams’ leap was marked by 34 goals for Juvenil de Honor.
He added that arriving at Lezama proved decisive due to the hunger and the set-up, pointing out that Iñaki Williams has played 517 matches and went six straight years without injury.
