Iñaki Williams warns: Athletic treat the Getafe game as a must-win
After losing to Levante, Athletic have their first “final” this Sunday at San Mamés against Getafe.
Iñaki Williams, Athletic’s captain, said the team’s “first final” begins this Sunday after their loss to Levante. The Bilbao side are now focused on San Mamés after conceding three goals in Valencia and heading into the break with the mood down.
“We have to start valuing every point, and start picking up wins of three if we don’t want to repeat the errors that led to a hard season last year. Back home will help… and we have to win, no excuses,” Williams stated. Yeray echoed the same feeling, noting: “You can’t start a match like that.”
Immediate pressure
The stakes are high: Athletic are five points off the sixth spot and just two points above the relegation zone, with their Vallecas match also pending. The defeat was built on a chain of mistakes, not a single mishap, and now the squad knows the Sunday visit from Getafe is where results must turn around.
