Iñigo Pérez aims for a response: Villarreal at Mestalla after Anfield
Villarreal boss expects a tight game at Valencia after Anfield, with doubts over Saliba and Romero ruled out.
Iñigo Pérez, Villarreal head coach, heads into the clash at Mestalla looking for his side to bounce back from the defeat at Anfield. He says he expects a “closed” match and wants to review what happened after a first half that was “very clear”, before two goals arrived in the second.
A Mestalla derby after Anfield
Carlos Romero is out for the Valencia game, while Saliba is a question mark due to the knock picked up at Liverpool: “Carlos Romero no estará en Valencia y Saliba ya veremos si puede jugar…”.
Remembering Aguirre
Pérez also spoke about Javier Aguirre, who he watched as a boy in Osasuna: “Soy de Pamplona y Aguirre era una referencia para mí cuando era niño”. He added that he knows Aguirre’s teams bring aggression as a key trait, and he expects that to shape the contest.
