Iñigo Pérez warns: Villarreal must not think about Liverpool

Iñigo Pérez, Villarreal’s coach, wants his side to switch off from the Champions League and focus on LaLiga against Elche. In a pre-match press conference, he said he is not thinking about Liverpool and expects the players not to either, stressing that the key is to look at tomorrow’s game: “if you lose tomorrow, how do you travel to Liverpool?”

On preparations, Pérez said he expects things to be fine with the squad available and highlighted the importance of managing muscular load and making decisions. He also addressed Peter Gulacsi, saying “Peter is fine”, that he joined training the next day, and that the club will decide “tomorrow”.

He added praise for de Anselmi and underlined that Elche, beyond the European backdrop, are “very strong physically”, with clear ideas and coordinated play. Finally, he said a win would help them solidify their position and find balance after a shaky start to the season.
