Iván Ania becomes the dean of Segunda dugouts with Córdoba

The Asturian coach reaches 92 Segunda appearances vs Tenerife (20:30) and trails Eizaguirre’s record by just 2: 94.

Iván Ania, Córdoba CF’s head coach, has become the dean of Segunda dugouts after Alberto González was sacked at Albacete this Saturday following a loss to Eibar. From that moment on, the Oviedo-born coach takes over as the manager with the longest consecutive run in Spain’s second tier.

Ania arrived at El Arcángel in summer 2023 after a spell at Algeciras, and he is already in his fourth straight season leading Córdoba. He has 91 matches in Segunda with the club, a number that will rise to 92 this Monday vs Tenerife (20:30). That would leave him just two games shy of Eizaguirre’s Córdoba record of 94.

González’s departure closes out a hectic early league phase: it is the third coaching change in Segunda in this start, after Imanol Idiakez left Cádiz on August 11 and after Eldense parted ways with Claudio Barragán, with Josep Ferrando initially in charge before Javier Calleja took over, as Sport reports.
