Jan Oblak hits top form again for Atlético after full preseason work
The Atlético goalkeeper has kept three clean sheets in LaLiga and two with Slovenia, after training “from day one” this summer.
Jan Oblak, Atlético Madrid’s goalkeeper, is back in his “prime” after a preseason in which, as he told close circles, he finally had more sessions than in other summers. The Slovenian said he could start “from the first day” and train “fully,” working alongside Pablo Vercellone, instead of arriving short on preparation.
That uptick is already showing with Slovenia: he has recorded two clean sheets in his last two matches, including a standout performance against Scotland with three big saves that unsettled the Scots. The pattern is also visible at Atlético in LaLiga, where they’ve reached three shutouts—vs. Málaga, Real Sociedad and Osasuna—in just eight games.
His numbers underline his role: seven goals conceded in LaLiga this season, with three of them coming in the same afternoon at San Mamés, plus two vs. Villarreal, one vs. Real Madrid and one vs. Sevilla. In the Champions League he conceded two against Liverpool, after several saves before Szoboszlai scored. His focus now is to keep improving and chase a seventh Zamora.
