Jarrod Bowen denied at West Ham: QPR hold them 1-1
West Ham missed the chance to go top in the Championship after drawing 1-1 with QPR, with Bowen’s 91st-minute penalty saved.
Jarrod Bowen and West Ham United were held 1-1 by Queens Park Rangers, a result that came on their return from the international break as Bowen’s 91st-minute penalty was stopped by Pierce Charles.
Charles not only saved the first effort, but also reacted quickly to keep out Arne Engels’ follow-up. Earlier, Nicolas Madsen had put QPR ahead by converting a penalty awarded in what was described as highly controversial circumstances.
West Ham pushed late and Bowen equalised with his seventh league goal of the season, scoring after his initial shot was blocked. In the 90th minute, Amadou Mbengue tugged the shirt of Pablo in the box, and Bowen had the chance to win from the spot—only for Charles to deny him.
