Javi Rodríguez leads Celta’s comeback at Celtic Park (1-2)
The centre-back scored twice in three minutes as Celta earned their first Europa League points against Celtic.
Celta grabbed a 1-2 win at Celtic Park this Thursday, driven by a Javi Rodríguez double that turned the match around in the second half and flipped the scoreboard in just three minutes. Claudio Giráldez’s side needed a response to pick up their first points in the Europa League, and they did it at the worst possible moment for themselves.
The turning point came after Celtic took the lead (47’). Baur finished after Cáceres lost possession and the Celtic winger’s ball wasn’t properly cleared. From there, Celta equalised when Javi Rodríguez struck again (68’) from a free-kick delivery into the box, and completed the turnaround with his second goal at 71’.
The match was played with 48,374 spectators and the referee was Georgi Kabakov (Bulgaria). In the closing stages, Celtic pushed for another goal, but Radu and Celta held on to secure three points that could shift the tone of the European campaign.
