Javier Aguirre demands minutes: Valencia academy players, or Mestalla

Valencia boss Javier Aguirre has told several academy prospects currently training with the first team a clear message: “No playing, no staying.” As reported by MARCA, he has laid out a plan so they keep match sharpness either with the first squad or—if that’s not possible—with the Mestalla.

The meeting involved Otorbi, Mayol, Aimar, and Iker Córdona. Over the last month, the piece notes that only Otorbi has seen minutes, and always from the bench. Mayol has not played since September 20 against Real Sociedad at Mestalla, when he scored and provided an assist; Aimar did feature for the B team on September 27 vs Poblense, but hasn’t played since; and Córdona’s last minutes came on September 15 vs Alavés.

Aguirre wants this to stop happening. If the youngsters can’t get minutes with the first team, the plan is for them to play with the reserve side in Segunda RFEF, so they don’t lose competitive rhythm.
