Javier Tebas on a potential CSD move: “I can’t believe the news”

LaLiga chief responds after reports the Spanish sports council could act ex officio over his Real Madrid comments.

Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, has reacted to reports that the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) is considering acting ex officio over his statements about Real Madrid, dismissing it outright. Through his X account, Tebas said: “I can’t believe the news that the CSD is studying acting ex officio because of my remarks.”

He argues the comparison he made was meant as a critique of “communication methods”, not as an ideological link. Tebas added that if the review is confirmed, it should start by reading “what I wrote” and checking “some background”. He also pointed to a press conference on 12 May 2026 where Florentino Pérez said: “I could have won 14 Leagues, but the others were stolen from me”, and regarding Negreira: “they’re still the same referees”.

The LaLiga president further recalled that those remarks are published on Real Madrid’s website and that referees filed complaints. The article adds that As reported on 21 September that the instructor proposed archiving the case in light of freedom of expression. MARCA also notes that Real Madrid demanded Tebas’s resignation and that he replied, saying: “This all has a name: intimidation.”
