Javier Tebas warns: Real Madrid are “the most rebellious”
LaLiga chief criticizes the fixture schedule and again talks of a “slow-motion” Super League.
Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, returned to the familiar debate about the Spanish giants, saying in Vigo that Real Madrid are the “most rebellious” side because the club’s leaders have a way of understanding football that he “doesn’t have”. He also mentioned Al-Khelaïfi.
At the “First National Conferences on Journalism and Sport”, where he met Vigo mayor Abel Caballero and Celta president Marián Mourinho, Tebas also attacked the international and European calendar. He argued that while LaLiga has 20 teams, there are now more national-team competitions and more European matches, which he says is “congesting” the schedule.
Finally, Tebas warned of a possible slide toward the Super League: he said it could “destroy national football” and lead to a two-tier game, contrasting a Super League stopped “in fast motion” with another “in slow motion”.
