Jeremy Jacquet, 'cute and clever': his role in Yarmoliuk’s red
Brentford lost 2-1 to Liverpool after Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off in the 8th minute of first-half stoppage time.
Jeremy Jacquet (Brentford) drew comments from head coach Keith Andrews after his role in Yehor Yarmoliuk’s red card during a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool. The Ukraine international was dismissed in the eighth minute of first-half stoppage time at the Gtech Community Stadium for an incident the referee, John Brooks, described as “a headbutting action” after checking the VAR monitor.
Andrews said he believed Jacquet “was cute and clever” in how the moment played out: “If you look at where Jacquet is walking, he's not looking at the ball, is he? He's walking in to Yarmo.” He also stressed that Yarmoliuk needed to do better, adding: “Yarmo needs to do better, so I can understand why it was a red.”
Yarmoliuk went down in the box, but Andoni Iraola’s side were not awarded a penalty, with a left-flank corner not yet delivered when the incident occurred.
