Jesús Galván fuels Recre expectations: Copa del Rey vs Rayo at Nuevo Colombino

Jesús Galván, coach of Recreativo, is upbeat about the Copa del Rey first round against Rayo Vallecano, to be played in three weeks at the Nuevo Colombino.

In quotes to EFE, he says the club is full of “huge illusion” after being drawn against a side that was Conference League runner-up last season. Galván also points out that, despite the excitement, “this season has started with doubts”. He expects a “beautiful and disputed” game and argues that at the Colombino they can play against Rayo “like you probably can’t” against any Segunda team, because a Primera opponent “won’t respect you” as much and will leave more space.

He adds that Recreativo’s squad isn’t as deep as others he could have faced (like Sevilla or Betis), but insists the match is an opportunity “to give a joy to the fans”, even if the main priority remains promotion.
