Sky Sports says the 15-year-old has made it clear he wants to leave and has asked for his registration to be cancelled immediately so he can become a free agent. Gabriel and his team feel United have had enough chances since the season started to involve him more often, including in plans tied to first-team squads.

While the club’s decision-makers will continue trying to persuade him to stay as long as he remains registered with Manchester United, the same source understands Gabriel has effectively made up his mind. In his view, he has already played his last game for the club.

A key detail is timing: Gabriel turns 16 on October 6, and Sky Sports adds that he can’t sign a scholarship agreement until then, nor a professional contract until he turns 17. The report also points out that Premier League rules only allow a youth registration to be cancelled if the club, player and parent or carer agree; if no deal is reached, the Premier League can issue a binding ruling.
