Joan García ruled out for Sevilla as a precaution

Joan García (25) will miss the Barça trip to Sevilla. Mundo Deportivo reports that the goalkeeper picked up discomfort in his knee late in the first half against Racing and underwent further tests after the match.

Right knee: mild discomfort

MD says the issue is not the same knee that required surgery last season. More than a confirmed injury, he has been left out as a precaution. The club’s statement, as quoted in the piece, says he “suffers from mild discomfort in his right knee”.

According to Mundo Deportivo, García was scheduled for tests at 11:00 at the Ciutat Esportiva and left the facilities around 13:20. After the game, Hansi Flick initially mentioned that they needed to assess how serious it was, even hinting he could be ready for Sevilla; later, in the press room, he stepped back from that message.

The incident came during a play where García slipped while chasing a ball that went out by the byline, after the pitch switched from natural grass to artificial turf. Flick opted to replace him at half-time, with Wojciech Szczesny taking his place. After the match, the coach downplayed the mistake and stressed that Szczesny is the team’s backup.

García will have the full international break to recover, with Barça not returning to action until October 11 against Getafe, as highlighted by MD.
