Joan Laporta backs Javier Tebas after Real Madrid’s ultimatum
Laporta hit back at Madrid’s messaging ahead of Real Betis vs Barça on Saturday at 18:30.
Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, stepped in to defend Javier Tebas after the Real Madrid asked for the LaLiga chief’s “immediate resignation” in a statement. Laporta spoke to local media a few hours before the trip to Sevilla for his team’s match at the Benito Villamarín on Saturday at 18:30.
Tensions flare again
Laporta said it is “great luck” to have Tebas as president and argued that he has the experience to counter Real Madrid’s attacks. He also claimed the Real are “never happy with anyone” and appear to want to “blow everything up,” while Tebas, in his words, is “battle-tested” and knows how to respond to what he called attacks unworthy of a LaLiga club.
He then expanded the criticism, saying Madrid goes after “a thousand excuses” through LaLiga, the referees committee and the federation, and that they try to “destroy everything they can” rather than accept their current situation.
On the pitch, the visit to Sevilla is the next test for a Barça side looking to keep momentum after a strong start to the season.
