Jofre Torrents debuts in Europe for Ajax as they fall to Hajduk (2-1)
Míchel’s Ajax lost in Croatia on the first matchday of the Conference League league phase: 2-1 and mounting concern.
Ajax’s European opener brought a setback, as Jofre Torrents made his debut as a starter in the Conference League, but they were beaten away by Hajduk Split 2-1 on the first matchday of the league phase. Until then, the left-back had only played eight minutes in the Eredivisie.
Torrents’ night had a sour moment: in the second goal, an uncertain pass to his teammate Baas led directly to Soticek’s winner. He was replaced in the 77th minute by Lucas Rosa.
Marc ter Stegen, on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season, conceded his 16th goal in the ten matches he has played for Ajax. With the defeat, Ajax have gone three games without a win, sit fifth in the Eredivisie and trail leader Feyenoord by five points, according to Mundo Deportivo.
