Jonathan Viera hits out at Helguera after Las Palmas planning calls
The former Las Palmas man, now at Ratchaburi FC in Thailand, questions the sporting plan after losing top centre-backs.
Jonathan Viera, a Las Palmas icon now playing for Ratchaburi FC (Thailand), took aim at the club’s squad planning and sent a direct message to sporting director Luis Helguera. Speaking on La Radio Canaria, the former winger said the squad “can’t be built the way it has been,” arguing that losing “the two best centre-backs in the category” leaves the team needing reinforcements.
Viera was even more blunt: “You can’t play Enzo at full-back, you can’t let your two full-backs go and not bring anyone in.” He also backed manager Rubén de la Barrera, saying “I like the coach… but the planning hasn’t been right,” insisting he is “the least to blame.”
He added a financial point: “What’s the point of paying 300,000 euros for a player if here I’ve got the same thing, with more enthusiasm?” For Viera, the standout young prospect is Rafa Cruz: “He’s a kid, but he’s got swagger and guile.” He wants the youngster to play “as much as possible” so he can become “a reference” for the academy, as reported by MARCA.
