Jonmi Magunagoitia is in his best moment at Eibar

Jon Mikel Magunagoitia (Jonmi), Eibar’s goalkeeper, is hitting what MARCA calls his best run of his career and has become a key figure in the team’s strong defensive numbers in Segunda. The paper points out that since his return to Ipurua in 2024, the position under the sticks has effectively been settled by his growing consistency.

Eibar’s defensive edge

The stats are hard to ignore. According to MARCA, Eibar have held opponents scoreless in 16 of their 29 Segunda matches in 2026. The outlet stresses it’s a team effort, but highlights the stability he provides in every action.

Jonmi connects the improvement to the collective work: “It’s everyone’s responsibility. I think it’s something collective and, personally, you benefit as a goalkeeper because the numbers are there,” he said when asked about the four goals conceded across these six matchdays.

Clean sheets and saves

MARCA also notes that Jonmi is among the leaders in several keeper metrics. He’s the second-most clean sheets this season, only behind Arnau Tenas, and he’s also second in saves with 27 so far in the league (only Jokin Ezkieta is ahead, on 28).

With that backdrop, Eibar are positioned among the stingiest teams in the division, described by MARCA as the least conceding side in Segunda after Mallorca.

Focus on momentum

Rather than getting distracted by league positions, Jonmi keeps the message simple. MARCA quotes him: “There are plenty of points to play for after only six matchdays, but we’re not thinking about anything else than trying to get our sixth win in a row.” He also plays down any exit talk, saying “I was clear that I wanted to live this, enjoy it and try to help the club return to Primera.”
