Jordan Henderson and João Pedro lead Chelsea past Bournemouth

Chelsea secured the win at Stamford Bridge with Henderson scoring twice and João Pedro on target, as Moisés Caicedo returned after injury.

Jordan Henderson lit up Stamford Bridge as Chelsea turned the screw against Bournemouth, with the midfielder’s brace (including a stunning free-kick) setting the tone for a big win.

The Guardian notes that Henderson became Chelsea’s oldest Premier League scorer since John Terry in May 2017. He opened the scoring with a bending shot from 20 yards and also laid on the assist for Morgan Rogers to make it 2-0 before adding his second spectacular strike from a free-kick that curled in off the inside of the right post.

Caicedo returns, Alonso still hunting answers

The result moved Chelsea up to fifth after their first league win in four matches. Moisés Caicedo returned for 72 minutes after a calf injury, while Reece James missed out after a knee problem picked up in training on Friday. Xabi Alonso backed the signing: “We signed him for everything… If he’s able to score two beauties as today, we are more than happy for him.”

João Pedro seals it as Bournemouth wobble

João Pedro added a third after Antonio Silva’s mistake to set up the break, and Evanilson also got Bournemouth off the mark from a corner. For Bournemouth, the trip was made harder by absences in attack and midfield, including Justin Kluivert, Eli Junior Kroupi and a thigh issue for Alex Scott. Marco Rose pointed to Chelsea’s fast starts: “We knew Chelsea are a team that starts well… It was our responsibility that we didn’t react the right way with this information”.
