José Copete returns to training as group session comes closer
The Valencia centre-back is back partially after a seven-month meniscus layoff, ahead of Javier Aguirre’s debut.
José Copete is moving closer to his comeback for Valencia: the centre-back took part in part of Saturday’s session with the rest of his teammates, seven months after suffering a meniscus injury.
Copete was injured on 22 February against Villarreal at La Cerámica, with a meniscus problem in his left knee that required a second surgery. After last season ended, he had already said via social media that he still had work to do to fully recover (“Por circunstancias… me toca seguir trabajando”).
Aguirre and the schedule
The step forward comes as Javier Aguirre starts his Valencia spell, taking charge at the end of last week. After Sunday’s rest day, the squad will return next week to prepare his first match: on Sunday 11 October, Valencia visit Racing de Santander at El Sardinero, with the team currently 19th in LaLiga after 4 points from their first seven games, according to Mundo Deportivo.
