José Luis Gayà, 72 days from becoming a free agent with Valencia
The Valencia captain is in the final stretch: after his last extension (to 2027), his deal ends on 1 January 2027.
José Luis Gayà, Valencia’s captain, has broken his “deadline” and is heading into the final phase: in 72 days he will become a free agent on 1 January 2027. The benchmark is his last renewal, announced on 19 October 2022, when the left-back extended his contract to 30 June 2027 with 253 days left.
Gayà, who is 31, has renewed in 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2022, and now the club is putting a new situation on the table for him to assess. As MARCA reports, during Ron Gourlay’s tenure there were talks about an extension, but the terms were effectively rejected because the offer was “too low”.
The player has publicly shown he wants to stay and is open to a notable pay cut, though there’s still no confirmed new step toward a deal.
