International referee José María Sánchez Martínez will oversee Atlético de Madrid–Deportivo de La Coruña at the Estadio Metropolitano. Mundo Deportivo says the appointment also means he’s no longer in the pool for next Sunday’s Clasico.
It will be the first time he officiates both teams in this season and it will be his fourth match in LaLiga. Atlético have played him 27 times: 14 wins, 8 draws and 5 defeats, making them the sixth team he’s refereed most often in the top flight.
Juan Luis Pulido Santana will be in VAR. He has refereed the visiting side in eleven matches, with a record of three wins, three draws and five losses; the most recent was on 2 December 2017, when Sevilla beat Deportivo 2-0 at the Sánchez Pizjuán.
