José Riestra backs Nicolás Larcamón after Sporting derby setback

Sporting’s executive president, José Riestra, moved to defend his coach, Nicolás Larcamón, following the setback in the derby to calm concerns about the team’s football. He spoke this Wednesday after the defeat.

Riestra pointed to Larcamón’s “right credentials” for a challenge like winning promotion to LaLiga and praised his approach: “openness to correct” and a willingness to hold “debate” with the players. On the podcast “Arquitectos de LaLiga”, he stressed that “He has plenty of knowledge in the field of the game.”

He also highlighted the coach’s “very good” human side and closeness, along with his hunger to “transcend” and take responsibility for reaching the target. Riestra justified the decision to bring him in by citing his track record: his experiences in Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and Mexico “were positive,” in reference to the coach’s decade-long career.
