Juan Francisco Funes hails Malaga’s “best away game” vs Alavés
The Malaga coach analyses their draw with Alavés and says they were unlucky to miss the win “with fingertips”.
Juan Francisco Funes, head coach of Malaga, spoke after the draw with Alavés and insisted it was his team’s “best away game”, with special attention on the first half. The coach admitted he was “unsatisfied and hurt” by how the fans experienced it, lamenting that they came close to winning “with fingertips”.
Funes believes the Alavés goal came from a foul on Recio: “He clearly stamps on him and renders him unable to keep playing.” Even so, he focused on what his side showed at Mendizorroza, saying that in most games they competed and stayed very close to the win, and adding: “The biggest win is seeing that they can do it.”
Patience for Larrubia
He highlighted the team’s execution, pointing to “more recoveries and transitions” and tying that to hope for what comes next. He also asked for patience with David Larrubia: “Things might not work out, but he doesn’t stop running and working.” On the supporters, Funes said they “carry us along in every match” and promised the squad will “give everything” every time.
